Read it. How do we respond? As I wrote in my reply to him (posted as a Comment), we need to develop a response to the rhetoric the other side uses...and we have to decide whether any of their criticisms have substance, so that we can remedy them.

thanks for forwarding that GM. we need to understand where the other side is coming from. we need to develop a response to the rhetoric they use.
the piece you forwarded was actually more reasonable than i would have expected. i still thinks its devoid of substance, but we need to point out exactly how. i'll try to set aside some time on doing so, and also invite some other guys to do so.
he actually makes a good point--some on the left have degenerated into America-hating nihilism. that's nothing new. i know about that--i've been there myself a lot in recent years. it's hard not to when you think about the consequences of American imperialism, and when you think about trying to effect change.
but i'm feeling weirdly hopeful. i don't feel that nihilism, b/c i believe in something--fighting the right wingnuts. and in some odd way i even feel patriotic. we are Americans too. their "traditional
values" are not ours. our values can't be summarized as "let's all do it in the road." we do believe in a secular, humanist, and diverse society. that is the potential of America.
incidentally, check out the link to the photos from that rally. that was wednesday here in SF. it started downtown and ended in our neighborhood. the BART station and McDonalds at 24th and mission is 4
blocks from our place.
